Chain Link Fence

A chain-link fence or wire netting or chain-wire fence is a type of woven fence usually made from galvanized or LLDPE-coated steel wire.  The wires run vertically and are bent into a zig-zag pattern so that each “zig” hooks with the wire immediately on one side and each “zag” with the wire immediately on the other.  Chain link fencing is not the subject at most cocktail parties to be sure! But if you are looking for a durable fence that can withstand enormous amounts of abuse, this is the material to go with.  The fencing you see at city playgrounds is industrial strength so to speak.  You may not want it, but there are grades in between the lightweight material and the heavy duty material.

You will need to know your fence stretch.  A stretch is defined as an individual straight line of fence unbroken bygates or other end posts.  Any place where the fence changes direction ends one stretch and starts another.  A gateplaced in a stretch actually creates two separate stretches (except on either extreme endof a line of fence).

Metallic-coated chain-link fences are available in galvanized, aluminized, galfan and galvinal coatings.  Vinyl and polymer color-coatings are available in black, green and brown. Consider what is best for your enviroment, galvanized fence is a must in the bay area.
